it seems like every other question on this forum deals with dirty carbs. i would like to see the owner of this forum add a section under research and info to include the answers f.i.t and p browning and glen in texas and other very knowledgeable people on this forum give people about carbs including a link to JDPubs.com. even then i'm sure people would have some direct questions to ask, but at least they could be told in a few words to check out the info under research and info and you guys that do such a good job on answering questions could concentrate on solving other problems and not have to retype the same answers over and over. just a thought.

John, So many carbs used on the JDs and others that it could get kind of long but the DLTX seems to give most the problems it seems. Those are covered on Pat B's site and at Roberts Carb Repair site. Just a note here to explain if someone has JD tractors or engines needing carb work or even other tractors with same style carbs the JD SM2024 Service Manual for Carburetors used on JD tractors and engines covers about 75 different gasoline and LPG carburetor models used on JD tractors, power units, combines, balers, hay presses, beet harvesters, cotton pickers, forage harvesters, & windrowers. For JD it covers carbs used on A to 730 tractors like the Marvel Schebler DLTX single & dual induction models, Marvel Schebler TSX carbs used on L,M,40,420,430 and other engines and brands, Zenith carb models 61, 62, 68, & 161 series used on many power unit or combine engines, LP carbs, TSG LP carbs, Zenith TU carbs used on 70-830 pony start engines, Marvel Schebler SL-2 used on R pony engines, and a 2 barrel Zenith OE1539B that was used on some 95 combine engines. The SM2024 can be obtained from JD Publications on paper for about $45 currently and you find it on the JD tech pubs site only by typing in "carburetors" in the search box. You don't find it on their site currently listed with manuals for tractors but they did once list it that way in paper catalogs for dealers and customers. Other ways to order it are by calling them direct at 800-522-7448 or if you go through your dealer or JD parts site I recently found the SM2024 priced through my local dealer at JD Parts site for $48.15 on paper or SM2024CD on CD disc for $32.10 but the JD Tech Pubs Dept. should be able to price it to you on CD also but their site wouldn't let me. It's a good carburetor manual for the money for carb theory and overhaul but still won't answer everyones questions and doesn't advise things like running drills by hand through the passageways or other trouble shooting tips. The SM2024 gives some specs for the early D and GP carbs but not really a overhaul section on those. The early D and GP carbs are covered some in one or two pages quickly in the SMF116 Service manual for JD D & GP tractors and E engines. Many have found Cork Groth to be knowledeable also on the early GP carbs and he has done seminars at GOG and other articles on carburetors. Frank has a lot of good restoration info on his site also www.fboerger.com

OOPS! Look two thread above, and there is my carb question!

But I DID do some research a couple nights ago with the search engine here, which gave me some really good advice and took me to some other websites as well.

The problem with search engines is human error: typos in threads. If someone typed DTLX71 instead of the correct DLTX 71, the thread would be missed.

And that happens . . .
