Thanks guys Iwas going to ask if that might just be normal operaton of it I saw the drain line so I thought it would have some oil in box ,I pulled the side panel off last night and looked inside ,It had about a 1/4 inch of oil in it ,and metal shavings,I pulled the pan and I have metal shaving in it too ,and litte flecks of brass I am thinking I lost a wristpin retainer

What you are seeing is normal for an older series Detroit. It is a combination of condensation, some fuel and exhaust gas and soot. The engine has to be run at rated speed for the blower to scavenge the exhaust and fuel mist out of the blower compartment. This is why there is a drain at the bottom of the blower box.It will clear up if the tractor is run at rated rpm and load. But idling around, not getting the engine up to temp, and not loading the engine will continue to give you the "oily" accumulation you are seeing

Two hours of operation before a two stroke detroit slobbers oil from the air box? That's the longest dry spell I've ever heard tell of. Mine drools a couple of tea spoons of oil every hour. Complete, cautious and total rebuild with mostly new parts. And it still acted like a 2-53 afterwards.
