435 Engine Question

Does the 2-53 GM Diesel have a slightly different sound when changing from the stock injectors to the N-series? Our 435 was sold with some property a number of years ago and I bought it back last year. The engine was rebuilt during this time period but the other owners know nothing about what pistons, injectors, etc were used. My dad and I were discussing how the tractor has a different sound than we remember. The tractor seems to run just fine and doesn't miss a beat. Are we just getting old and imagining things or do these motors sound different with updated parts? Appreciate any help.

N spec 435 sounds much different from a S spec when idling side by side. There is a much sharper/louder "knock/rap" each time a cylinder fires. It smokes less and starts better too.
