Just put in a new hydraulic pump in a 4020 John Deere propane tractor. But hydraulics still not working. I don't have brakes, steering and lifting power. Does any one have any idea what it may be?

You dont have to drain the hydraulic oil to check transmission screen. Just unscrew the filler cap where you add hydraulic oil and stick the hose of a shop vac in the tube and turn vac on. You wont lose maybe a spoon full. I do this every time on my 4010.

This is the internal pump and suction screen mentioned below. If it isn't plugged could also be loose or leaking lines. You have to drain the trans oil to clean the suction screen. If it's a metal screen you may get by cleaning it carefully but if a plastic one go by JD dealer to get a new one and metal one if they have it.

I'm pretty sure you are right. I have changed the hydraulic oil filter about two times because it had sand and water in it. Where is this internal pump located and how can it be re moved.

As Mr. Buick-Deere stated, the main pump MUST be fed oil or it will not work. Pressure, however, is not important - except as an indicator that there is indeed SOME oil. The main, 8-piston front pump can not draw any oil to itself. So, the tranmssion pump - or reservoir tank if you have one - must supply it. At any time and during any function - it makes no difference if the oil from the transmisson pump is 30 PSI or 1 PSI. The important thing is - there must be some pressure - and if it reads zero - than the front pump is not getting oil. It is the excess flow that creates pressure - and with no flow - no PSI. You didn't mention if you have a Synchrorange or a Powershift - as they have different trans. pump systems. If you have a Powershift - and the transmission pump is not working at all - the transmission won't work. If you have a Synchrorange - it won't make a difference that you will notice. Also, if you have a Synchrorange with a hydraulic-actuated PTO disk - it also needs trans. pump oil. You can do an easy check of your transmisson pump with a bucket. Unhook the feed line going to your main pump, put a bucket under it, and start or crank the tractor. If a 5 gallon bucket fills with oil in 60 seconds - then you're getting 5 GPM. If you get nothing, you've got delivery problems. I assume you've already checked the obvious stuff - but Deere's are known for getting plugged transmission pump screens when the brake linings wear.

What pressure is the transmission charge pump output while the front pump is trying to supply a load? Just guessing and throwing parts at any problem is just going to cost $$$. Was the hydraulic function loss gradual or sudden? Has any other work, modifications, repairs, additions etc been done to the transmission or hydraulics? When was the last time the screens and filters were serviced as per the operator's manual?
