When I raise with the rock shaft, it goes up just fine, but when it gets to the limit of travel the pump makes a real racket,...sort of a vibrating groan, and I think I can hear the rpms drop a little. If I move the lever back to neutral it stops, and it holds,...doesn't bleed down. So what's going on?

Ah, this is interesting...if I move the lever forward and let go of it, it just pops back to neutral without raising to the top. So does anybody have an idea about why it doesn't stay in position until the rockshaft reaches its limit?

When it gets to the top the lever should kick out, unless you hold onto it then you are just building up max. pressure against the relief valve.

Are you pushing it all the way forward ? Or even backward ? There should be a noticable detent position. You can even do it with the engine shut off to get better feel of it. If not there is some adjustments inside the top cover. I think the I & T book even cover these.

Do you have enough fluid in there? If it is just running out of oil as it nears the top, the pump will suck air and it will cackle quite a bit, and the air/oil/foam won't allow it to kick out the lever and return it to neutral.

Just a thought.

Frank
