Thanks to all for your input on my head gasket trouble. I forgot to mention in my previous post that this 70 is a pulling tractor and has a Power Block in it. It is running somewhere in the neighborhood of 9.5-10:1 compression. The stock-type gasket simply will not hold at this compression level. The gasket was installed correctly (I have done these for 40 years) but never in a high performance application such as this. I have a copper head gasket ordered and am hoping this is the end of my problem. In answer to Mike in Mo"s post, the Deere head gasket is made by Victor and is steel sided with a composite center. It would be an excellent gasket in a "mild" engine but this one is "not mild". I checked several parts stores and Fel-Pro apparently doesn"t furnish a head gasket for 70"s. Everyone tells me the copper gasket is the way to go, so one is coming. Mike

My machine shop said that for a copper gasket to have much of a chance everything needs to be smoother and flatter than you would normally need.

With the copper head gasket it still mite not seal with that compression. You still may have to O-ring the block to get it to seal up. My G I have is 10:1 with a copper gasket with the block O-ringed and it seals it up.
