Recently purchased a used JD 450C Crawler Loader, during maintenance I have discovered that no transmission oil is being pumped to the filter, cooler unit. The filter is new and none of the hoses seem to be blocked. I found in the manual that there is a bypass valve in the transmission pump. Does anyone know if there is a way to check or reset the valve without removing the transmission? Other than reverse quits after the tractor gets hot the transmission seems to function correctly.

I was reading your post about your 450c transmission oil getting hot and tractor not backing up once it got hot.

I have a 450c that does the same, works fine until the transmission oil gets hot and then does not want to back up properly.

Did you find and fix the problem with your tractor and if so can you give me some advice as of what to do?

Forgot to advise you about trans adjustment...Slipping trans will create a lot of heat...Adjust trans as per tech manual

The cooler relief valve is located below the trans top cover on the top surface of the transmission case, right behind the clutch housing. You will find a flat cap about 1/2" dia. With a punch and hammer, tap on the cap and tip it out ..There will be a spring and plunger in there..Free it up and reinstall the cap with a small amount of locktite plastic gasket..Same with the top cover...If working properly you should be able to dead head a gauge in the cooler line and get the relief valve pop off setting....

Thanks! I had taken off the cap, but only found the access to the pressure regulator. The manual I have shows the releif valve is in front of that. your statement "If working properly you should be able to dead head a gauge in the cooler line and get the relief valve pop off setting" lost me. can you explain further what you mean? Thanks again!
