Hi I am currently restoring a 1944 John Deere A for a 4H project and while i was looking at it closer today on the side of the block near back is stamped 045. I wanted to know if this meant that someone bored out the block 45 over. I know it is not a john deere stamp. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Aaron Holleran

Lots of times they are stamped on the block to head face as well- right in between the cylinders, and sometimes the pistons will have it on the face-might take some cleaning but its usually there. Cast or aluminum pistons???

i forgot to tell you to do a serach on (as typed) JD Heritage. in there, theres a place you can go to manuals and type in your model number and it will give you all three manual numbers you need for your tractor.

sounds right to me. you can always check it if you tear it down. sounds like a shop had several blocks that they were reboring and they marked them after they were bored. glad to see a younger person is getting involved in this hobby. us old guys want be here for ever. i think any guy on this forum will be glad to help you any way they can. do you take two cylinder magazine or green magazine? they offer alot of people selling parts in them besides all the interesting stories and picture people send in. you need to buy the manuals for your tractor before you start on it. i think everybody either buys them from the dealer or john deere publications. com (i think). i don't know their number but somebody here will give it to you i sure or read some of the other post on here. you might enjoy johnnypopper.com forum too.
