I am gathering things up to Rebuild the engine in my 1964 1010R JD (gas). I am having trouble finding a Engine Rebuild Kit for the 1010.
My dealer said it was obsolete and he couldn"t order it? Have any of you guys ever rebuilt a engine on a 1010 gas and where did you find the kit? I was told the 1010 was a pain to rebuild and was the worst engine design JD ever made? Thanks for the help

I think I will just try and hone the sleeves and go with new rings and pistons. Thanks,
Also, what is a good source on information on the 1010R"s? I was looking at the numbers and found only 1492 of the 1010R"s were made. Another guy told me that only 10 were made in 64-65? How can I verify this? Could JD tell me?
Thanks,

Check the archives on this site. Much of the information you need is there. Check out the option of boring out your block to accept 1020 sleeves (I think), as I said there is a lot of information there you just have to search it out! I have found rebuild kits for sale on e-bay once in a while. good luck on it, working on 'em is most of the fun.....

I think those sleeve decks can be bored oversize
and larger pistons installed

You can still get the gasket set from JD. They also have the bearings and rings and pistons. The sleeve deck is expensive. If JD doesen't have them, Napa also carries them. They won't have the sleeve deck, but they do have rings and bearings. If you weren't getting water in the oil and you can get by with honing the sleeves with new rings, I wouldn't recommend trying to get the sleeves out. It's real easy to crack the sleeves loose of the deck plate.

Years ago when I had connections with Perfect Circle after market parts they made 30 over pistons for it.When the piston plant was sold that ended the Perfect Circle pistons. You may need to find dimensions ( I may have somewhere yet and see what can altered to match them. Around here some people put 45 combines engines in 1010 tractors. Just a thought. You realize that the sleeves are cast all in a single assembly
