Hello,
I have a set of 8" wide round spokes to go on my 1935 JD "A". I have them sand blasted and just about ready for paint. My question: What is the best tire size to use on this wheel? I have heard that 11.2 will fit but that 9.5 is actual;ly the proper size. I have also heard that the larger size tire actually looks better on the "A". I hope some of you with experience will jump in and give an idea or two.
Alan

i've come up with what i think is a good way to paint your rims and not knock the paint off of them bolting them onto the tractor. first paint the inside of the rims and the side that will be mounted to the tractor. after this is dry mount the tire to the rim and bolt onto the tractor without inflaing the tires. next use some rope to pull the tire back from the outside edge and mask off the tires. next paint the outside of the rim and bolts. after thats dry untie and inflate. this way you don't knock any paint off of the bolts or rim. lol

Alan,
It depends on what rims you have on your wheels. If they are HC125B F&H wheel with the 8.00T-36 "conventional" rim, a 13.6 (or 14.9) would probably look best. The most common round spoke A wheel is the HC125B with a 6.00S-36 rim - and that usually takes a 9.5 or 11.2 tire. Conventional rims for the A were only made in 6 and 8 inch sizes and 36" dia only (no 38" conventional wheels were made).

A few round spoke wheels made after 1939 for the 10 spline A had a "wide base" rim - which has a single drop as opposed to the "conventional" rim which has a double drop. So, if your's is a wide base rim let us know the diameter and we'll go from there.

Duane,

The wheels I refer to in my first posting are 36" diameter, 8" wide and are of the single drop style. I have had a tire store tell me that I should use the 9.6 x 36. I think that tire is just a bit on the small side. As I mentioned before, the current next size up would be the 11.2 x 36. Are you telling me that I should even go up one size from 11.2? I have not messed with these smaller series tires and don't want to buy something and feel bad about it until they are worn out! I await your response.

Alan,
Is there a casting number on the hub of your wheels? If they have 8" wide base rims a narrower tire will be better. But I would like to understand what wheels you have. Any possibility of emailing me a pix?
