Hi .... I just bought a JD AW in Maryland and need to get it to Florida where I live ... Can anyone tell me the weight of a '44 AW ... The wheel are set in at 74" .... So I guess it would fit a standard twin axel trailer if it doesn't weigh too much ... I would also consider hiring someone to haul it .... The distance is about 900 miles ... Thanks for any help .... Dogwood

I'd think an AW with cast rear wheels and a roundtube front axle would weigh around 5200 lbs. I hauled my GW from Paradise, CA to Southern Michigan on a 7000# general purpose 84" wide by 16' long Carson trailer pulled by a '77 F-250/460 Ford with no problems at all except a vapor lock on the Sherman grade on I-80. The GW weighs 6100 lbs. The old Ford did burn a little gas though....quite a little as a matter of fact.

If tractor is close to #5000 and you figure #2000 for trailer you are going to be close to maximum. Might be cheaper in the long run to have it hauled. One accident is all it would take to ruin things. A hauling schedule can be found on this site, under community. Hope this helps. Good luck. Deerewolf

I hauled a regular tricycle A from N. GA to S. GA in the 80's, using a heavy-duty twin-axle trailer and a Ford F-150. I stayed on the back roads. Wouldn't want to get on the Interstate!

My 1948 A roll-o-matic front with stamped rear wheels weighs about 5000 lbs.

i've found that its not pulling something thats bad. its the trying to get it stopped. al law requires four seperate chains on any piece tied to a traier. so carry plenty of chains and binders if you go yourself. there is some adds in green magazine and two cylinder magazine for people who do hauling. if you have a local wrecker company that you deal with he might give you a flat rate on going and getting it for you. either way you go its going to be expensive.

Tractordata has a long history of being wrong- 3800 is less than an AC WD45. I'd go with the NE test.

An original '44 A without starter, lights, battery and power lift is going to be less than a '47 A. A wide front and long rear axles will add . Also does it have cast or steel disk wheels.

Maybe you could convince a hauler in maryland to bring it down to your place in florida, maybe find him something to take home like a rust free 57' chevy or likewise, considering older rustfree cars are plentiful and cheap down there, here in NY, everything is rotted..LOL just an idea.
