My 730 diesel electric hunts at low idle. Try to set at 700 but hunts to 900 down to 500 and sometimes goes low enough to kill the engine. I am able to keep it from hunting for the most part but then when I throttle to high idle and then back to low idle it doesnt come back down right of way it takes awile. I did have the governor off and apart as well as the fuel system which was rebuilt. Any help or ideas?

Thank you Mike

Thanks for the help. As far as the gov. weights go I just put in two new ones, old ones were bad. The spring was good when I put it back in its hard to see now that it is in maybe I'll pull it out to double check. If its not broke should I replace it anyways? One other thing is when tractor is off the rack is either wide open or totally closed when lever is moved. Would that be from bad adjustment or a sticky rack? I am able to move rack by hand but don't know how easy it should or shouldnt move.

Thank you Mike

The rack should go to wide open with the engine off unless the throttle is in the shut off position. One area that I have found to cause the "hunting" problem is the eccentric cam on the governor linkage. Some tractors are more sensitive to this than others. I have seen ones that worked fine with that eccentric maxed out and others that will hunt like the dickens no matter what else you adjust. It's a quick and easy thing to check so I'd take a look there.

Did you adjust the rack and linkage per the book ? There is an eccentric in the middle of the lever that runs the rack that requires adjustment. Also check your rack for binding.

Broken right side rack return spring? Missing governor weight?

I am with Fit on this.If the tractor was overspeeded(1350 can do it),sometimes the force will only cast off a part of the lead on the weights.Been there, done that years ago.
