Jeb loves to "help" me in whatever I am doing on our john deere tractors and implements. He has named all tractors, implements, as well as other vehicles. He has his own plastic jd tractor from walmart but likes the big ones better. Last weekend the weather was good so I painted my kba disc harrow. I had meticuliously sandblasted and painted the discs black, the frame and spools green, and scrapers and wheels yellow. It even has new bearings and races with goodyear implement tires. Jeb "helped" with masking tape and wiping it down. Tuesday morning with the sun shining I took several pictures for my scrapbook. WELL later that day my "helper" Jeb found a can of jd classic green spray paint and "helped daddy paint". He sprayed a wheel and tire some of the scrapers. I didn't have the heart to scold him but I will take another photo of his new paint work for when he owns the disc!! By the way, he also painted his plastic tractor and was very proud!

That's probabaly how I was when I was a kid ?

I can't get my boy away from the game boy.He seems to have no interest in old or new iron.

I have twin boys that are 14 months and they are addicted as well. They ride on the 60 and have their own electric deere. Keller calls the 60 "pop pop" and his fisrt word besides mamma and dada was tractor....Jack his brother is equally crazy about the pop pop but he seems to like the #52 plow we have. The funny thing is that they want nothing to do with red tractors or even new generation Deeres. They are only into the two-cylinders. Great story...I'll have to lock up the paint from now on!

I just get a smile across my face when I read this kinda subject. My son is 16 years old now but when he was 8 I was rebuilding a 70 JD and had the crankshaft and block out he wanted to help so I gave him a scraper and told him to clean the surface where the block mated to the crankcase.I went on doing what I was doing and after a couple of minuits I glanced over and was shocked when I seen what he was doing. He had both arms up in the crankcase pulling out that 24 year old sludge. He got it all out but he had that mess all over him.It took a lot of GoJo to get him cleaned up and Momma wasn't happy about his shirt either. He's my little test driver now when I am working on two cylinder Deere. He won't drive a Ford,IH,Oliver, just the two cylinder Deere.

If this was the first time the tractor had been torn down, wouldn't that sludge be more than 24 years old. Sounds like you did it 8 years ago, which would make the tractor either new or rebuilt in 1974.
