Need some help, I have a John Deere 2510 (1966). the 3 point seems jerks when going up and sometimes will not go up at all for a minute or 2 the comes up very quickly but still jerks. Will happen at high idle and low idle. I have changed the fluid and filter, the old fluid looked good. Also once in a while the steering will not work when 1st started. I have noticed a slight leak at the hydraulic couplers and 1 under the center console sem to be coming the the steering assy somewhere. Any pointers would be great.

Could need a rockshaft cylinder rebuild? But when you also mentioned power steering being slow too then maybe you should also check the primary pump sump screen that is in trans case. Should find a plug with square hole on RH side of lower trans case and underneath it is a long metal or plastic screen inside. Pull it out and inspect and clean or replace. Yes, you will have to drain all the trans oil to check it. How old is the oil? Change it. Did you find a lot of crud or fibre looking stuff in filter when you changed it? Might also have dealer run a pressure check on hydraulics too if still more problems. Check the relief valve out too. Also a screen on front pump. Hopefully that pump is okay. A pressure test could tell you that. Hydraulic remotes aren't that hard to fix and O ring kits, barrels and other parts are available from JD. There is a return hose on steering case that could be leaking or the the seal up under the steering wheel and bushing may be gone and it's dripping down throttle tube to under console. Could be something else leaking under there too. 2510 parts book is online at JD parts site. I still have 2510 JD shop manual and parts catalog on paper I would sell. Like new yet and no I'm not giving them away.

Glen,I think the plug for tranny screen is on LH side. There is also a small screen in in supply line at main hyd. pump that may need cleaned. Also check stand-by pressure as it should be 2250 psi.

Jim, He said 66 2510 but didn't mention if syncro range or power shift. I know for 37 years we had a 66 2510 syncro range it was on RH side down under the battery box and brake pedals on lower side of trans case. Flat faced plug with a square recessed hole and not like the plug shown in parts illustration. Comes out LH side and screen behind plug. I recall it being the same place on a late 4020,4320,6030 all with syncro and 4450 with quad range. But I probably wouldn't know on a early 4010 or early 4020 or power shift but JD parts seems to show it also on RH side. The element filter were on LH side.
