Hi
I have a 410 backhoe, which was working perfectly. One day later The hydraulics are very slow. The front shovel is really slow and shudders as it is being raised, or doesnt work at all, The steering is very heavy The backhoe still works but it is very slow, but has enough power to raise the back of the machine. The steering is also very heavy. The machine still drives perfectly. I think that the problem could be caused by the pressure relief valve not working or sticking. How can one check this ? What happens if I increase the number of spacers in the pressure regulator? what damage could I do ? I checked the fiter relief valves and the filters and are ok. Someone one that I know says that the problem is that the main hydraulic pump is not working, how can this be checked.

I would be rally greatful for some ideas how to get the machine working agin because I need the machine

Usually increasing the shim washers in a engine or hydraulic pump relief valve increases the spring pressure raising the bypass dump pressure of the relief valve. The service manual probably tells you the maximum amount of washers to safely add before looking for other problems also. Should also be some specs on length of relief valve spring or compression length in service manual. Is the relief valve spring broke? Has filter or brake material shown up in the system before when changing filters? Some of it could be stuck in valves? I'm not that familiar with that one but maybe there is another suction screen someplace on pump too? Is pump making noises or valves? If any hoses on pump suction side make sure those aren't collapsing inside. Should be able to plumb in a pressure guage someplace to test pump and system pressures. Visit with service at a JD industrial dealer or for manuals call 866-213-3373 or 800-522-7448 or visit their site.

If you checked all the usual problem sources, here's another place to look..Go to your friendly neighborhood Deere dealer parts guy.. On the hydraulic pump there's a destroking solenoid[ on the alternator side] see if the wires are hooked up first.. To check the solenoid for problems , there is a plug that goes into the hole the solenoid came out of.. This bypasses the destroking system..If the solenoid is faulty the hydraulics will work A-1 with the plug installed in its place. You will notice it will be hard starting due to pump trying to build pressure.. If you roll the loader bucket back and forth while starting it will relieve pressure build-up till it starts.. Hydraulics should be responsive as they were before the problem arose.....The parts guy can get one of these plugs for you....
