I have a 50 that does not have the fingers to hold the pulley cover on. Can these be bolted or riveted on without too much having to be remove from inside the pulley? Thought I would order some from the dealer and install them.

Thanks for the help guys. I installed it this morning and it fits really tight so I don't think it will come off. That thing caught some hay last summer and showered me with it. Looks much better now.

Short answer is, YES :)

Had the same problem with my 50. My JD dealer says the rivets are NLA but he sold me three short flathead screws and locking nuts which work perfectly. (My cover would not fit that tight so it does need the springs).

In reply to Charles, dealer must have pretty good liability insurance as JD didn't use any nuts or parts that could possible come loose and lock up a clutch, risk business

Re: liability, if it occurred to them at all, I assume that that's why they handed me self-locking nuts. Also, it'd be pretty unlikely that anything could lock up in there - the centrifugal force would throw anything back to the rim of the housing, there is more than enough room between the discs and the pulley for clearance, and there is not enough distance between the plates when disengaged for a nut that size to get stuck between them. But if you're concerned, there is always safety wire or cotter pins!

got a better idea, get the spring and ribet. insert ribet and use mig welder and slightly weld in place...

The fingers are a nice touch but the pulley cover on my 50 is held on by the force of the cover against the pulley, much like the grease cap is held on a trailer hub, a press fit. I doubt that the cover on mine would come off if the fingers were removed altogether. Try flaring the cover a little with a pair of pliers and see if it stays put.

Thanks, I'll try that. I never gave that a thought so I never even tried to put a cover on it.
