When I turn right on my jd 2030 the steering makes a popping sound and the front tires move like they have detents. What could be causing this?

Also, the alternator light comes on after the motor has been shut down and the key turned off. Any opinions?

Thanks
ab

SOUNDS LIKE THE SPINDLES COULD BE FREEZING UP DO TO BENT OR TWISTED SHAFT OR LACK OF GREASE. JUST A THOUGHT. ALSO SOUNDS LIKE THE ISOLATION DIODE ON THE ALTERNATOR IS BAD.
