I plan to install, a later styled long stroke "A" crank, in an unstyled "A". Would someone, who has done this retrofit, please respond so I can benefit from your experience and not learn everything the hard way. Other questions; what are the best rods to use? Where is the best place to get aluminum pistons? Does the hand start flywheel fit ok? I have a Hysler head on this tractor now, will using this head with the longer stroke crank make this tractor hard to hand start?
Thanks for your responses.
Alan

The crank swap is fairly straightforward, no clearancing required. I assume you are going to install the A2360R crank, which has the right end for the handstart flywheel. I would also install the A2449R flywheel to keep everything in balance. Use the A2344R connecting rods. These have a 1/4" larger wrist pin hole than the unstyled rod. {1 3/4}. Hinrichs Repair sells aluminum piston kits for most 2-cyl. JD's.{815}778-1900 or {815}499-6580. These pistons are M&W remakes and will have about 6.5 to 1 C.R. If your tractor is properly tuned, you should have no problem hand starting it.
