Does anyone know where I can send the brake pulley shaft and clutch assembley parts to get them repaired? The shaft needs to be built up and the housing and brake bracket need bushings. Local machine shops want an arm and a leg and my ss#.

Thank you,

MACE

I drilled out the bearing housing and the pulley brake arm and just got two bushings which tightened everything up. If you would like I can post some pictures I took during the process. Also my dad welded the top of the bearing housing and ground it down square. I met Mike williams at the gathering of the green and he is very skilled and could do all your work but it is funner doing it yourself (if you can). Al

Al,

Thanks for posting the pictures. If I had the equipment I would much rather do it myself, but I don't so I have to farm it out. Where did you get your bushings from and what size did you end up using on that piece?

Thank you,

MACE

I think that fork shaft is 7/8 so i got a 7/8 Inside diameter,1 inch outside diameter and drilled it out to an inch. In the housing it required two bushings stacked on top of each other. Here was the tricky part, a shady farmer took some hard A** rod and ran it down in the housing to try to tighten it up. The hard rod kept smoking my drill bit when I was trying to drill it to an inch so I took the bearing to a machine shop and said drill this. He said why do you want me to smoke my bit too? He said that would require a carbide bit and he didnt have that in an inch size. I went to the hardware and got a carbide cement bit, sharpened it a little and it drilled right through it on my drill press!!! If you need anymore help email me at [email protected] Al

MACE,
You might check with Mike Williams at M&J Enterprises, Clinton, IA 563-243-4928. He specializes in clutch rebuilding, crankshaft resplining, etc. He has given seminars at the Gathering of the Green on clutch rebuilding and seems to have a fine reputation for doing good work. He has fabricated several jigs for holding the brake arms, etc. to get them correctly straightened.

I agree on checking around more local as someone may be doing nice machine work part time. Search archives as someone recently posted about sending their clutch fork assembly off to someone rebuilding them on a exchange basis also.

Thanks to all for the replies thus far. I found a local fella that says he can do the machine work for me.
