Rebuilding a 1961 4010 diesel and want to verify the order on the sleeve o-rings. I have video that says the "red/orange" o-rings go down (towards the oil/crank) and the black goes up top towards the coolant. HOWEVER, the o-ring packages from JD say just the opposite. I installed them according to what JD advises but just wanted to make sure before I insert the liners.

And be sure you get it right. Trying to remember, since I didn't have a video, I must have used the JD package for directions.

The seals in the tractor were opposite what was in the package and had swelled and were leaking because they were against the wrong fluid.

Really hacked me as I had to overhaul my tractor (since I had it apart) when I didn't need to just because the doodo that installed the orings the last time got them in backwards.

Red O-ring top groove or Coolant side. Black O-ring bottom groove or Oil side. Use a mild liquid soap or the John Deere lubricating soap to lubricate o-rings and liner pilots. Do Not use oil or any type of petroleum for lubricant when installing liners. If grooves are properly cleaned and o-rings and sleeves are properly lubricated liner can be installed by pushing them in place with your hands. If you have to force them in any way other than your bare hands you are not doing it right. Good Luck, DW

Black suggests Neoprene which is pertoleum tolerant.
