I did my first rebuild when I was about fifteen. Dad pretty much left me go at it. He took alot of the parts into NAPA, and that was about it. He bought me an IT service manual and all the parts. The first was a late A. I mean it when I say it got the works-high altitude pistons and all. Always finshed the job off with a new radiator core. The only problem that we ever had with it was keeping it cool. Always ran around 220 pulling the 10 foot harrow. The next was a 630 wwe used on the haybine. It sure was tired--15 psiin one side and 30 on the other. Made a mistake somehow putting new bolts in the intake/exhaust--I broke it. I was sixteen, had my licence, and off to the dealer I go. Nothing second rate for our machines. I made a mistake at the machine shop though getting the exhaust manifold faced. The new intale stuck down a little further below the exhaust. I'll get it right yet. Back I go. Torqueing those head bolts can be quite a chore for a young fellow. Its nice to see a young fellow have the same interest. Fond memories.

Did mine 3-1/2 years ago when I was 32. It was a 1985 Buick Somerset Regal my dad gave me. Had 107,000 miles and the engine froze. Turned out to be two spun rod bearings. Was a complete rebuild from the ground up on a Buick 3.0L V6 engine with multi-port fuel injection.

I did have my best friend - a heavy diesel mechanic - check my work to make sure I was doing it right, but I did everything.

This car just rolled over 200,000 miles on November 12. Then last Friday I busted up the grill-work and headlight assy. when I took out a 4-point buck while I was on my way to work. Had the first venison steaks last night. Yum, Yum.

To paraphrase a little - "Nothing tastes like a deer!"
