Gman if I remember correct the LP dist. on the 70lp tractors were like this. They come out had make a hard 90 degree turn. I see one on a G few months ago and asked him about it. But not 100% sure about the speed, but I think that it is reduced like you said, reduced at the joint, with beveld gears. So then it only turns the same speed as the cam. If you could find two of these may be able to make a common drive line for them. Factory they look like an L they make that hard 90 and have the cap facing the front of the tractor. Build it so it looks like an upside down F with the two dist. sticking out, with both caps toward the front of the tractor. Then they can be timed together. (just have to make sure they are exactly at the same angle.) Well just an Idear, for a Deere. JDGnut

Hey guys, I just thought I would drop my two cents in here. With all this talk about extra multiple gear drives, has anybody considered the timing variation that would result from all of the possible slack in that many gears? I would think that would defeat most of what you would be trying to gain. Not to say it couldn't be done, but it would appear to me to be killing a flea with a battle tank. I am running a regular Delco distributor with electronic ignition on my 60 puller and it runs great. I have an LP distributor for it and wanted to get an electronic set-up for it, but was told they are not available. You would have to fabricate it. This slack thing is why they went to direct camshaft distributor drive on the 20 series tractors to get more precise timing without all the bouncing around. Don't want to throw water on someone's idea, just trying to help. Mike

Mike you should be able to get an eletronic ignition set up for your LP setup. I dont' know if you get the hook mag, but just about everybody in there sell these setups. I even know that they are starting to offer them for the positive ground system too. Once you run one you'll change them all, never have to pull that cap again. I've been running one in my G for about 3 yrs now, runs great. JDGnut

Im still havin an awful time figurin any advantage for more than one distributor with an electronic high energy ignition. All that dual point dual distributor business was due to high rpm (points floated) and tryin to fire 8 cylinders at 8000 rpm in the old days using mechanical points. I think those after market direct mount in electronic distributors may already be configured to fire only on compression but not exhaust strokes but Im not sure. Some of the mags you know like the Einsman and Fairbanms were triggered only every other time but thats old mechanical stuff. Still if he wants to use 4 plugs per cylinder the dual distributors may be an easy way to get all the sparks at the right place at the right time maybe while still using magnetic pickups in them and elec control units and high energy coils. Hey any you guys goin to Expo X next July??? I submitted an application for my 38 B and offered to conduct daily electrical seminars if they want because in a recent two cylinder magazine it asked about possible seminars. This ignition stuff is too complicated over the net its the type thing that would be fun brainstorming about in person. Later John T

John T. I'm planning two plugs per cylinder,I'm thinking you can wire it up just like you was using only one plug and one distributor, the #1 terminal on each distribtor firing plugs on #1 cylinder and so on. I think it will work I was a little concerned that the LP ditributor only fired twice per revolution were as the other distributor would be firing four times,it don't bother the other tractors that fire four times per revolution so why would it bother this configuation? G man I think that makes good sense as an easy way to fire two plugs per cylinder (the 4 was gettin too radical for me) and you can use magnetic pickup coils in the distributors to trigger MSD control units and one plug per coil, so all you gotta do now is figure how many coils a single MSD box can supply. (Call them) Remember with two distributors the two plugs wont fire at exactly the same time and that doesnt bother me if both in the head, but if youre gonna go that one in side and one in head Im still gonna be surprised if it works well due to counteracting opposing shock waves?? I think you ought to call MSD because it may not be that expensive for them to program a chip to insert in their off the shelf control unit with the built in spark advance versus rpm program. If you run an MSD high energy ignition and two plugs in the head (I dont think you even need two with MSD at all but its your tractor), ignition will not be any weak link and its up to compression, fuel, and rpm after that. Let us know. Ol John T

I don't know that there is that much advantage (If any) of the two dist. but having the two would give you more adjustment, but I don't know that you would want it, may make it harder to time. but it would give U more adjustment while running on the dyno, just to see what would happen. Like I said if nothing else sure will Look good. hahaa.
I'm going to try and make it to the Expo, I got to find an reason to tell my boss that I need to go to Waterloo that week, I'll figure somethink out. later

Shorty, have to talk to Gman about the parts. He trying to build a dual dist, G. Just givin some Ideas for a design. Its going to get kind of wild. Talk to you later Shorty. JDGnut
