My great grandfather recently gave me his old John Deere 4 bottom plow, so it means a lot to me.

I'm not exactly sure what I want to do with it, but I'm starting to think about restoring it, as restoring would go with a 50 year old plow, meaning probably just paint, so I figured I should at least get a little information on it first.

I was told that it was from around the late forties or early fifties. I was just wondering how I could find out for sure, also what is the exact color that an old plow like that would be?

I appreciate the help, THANKS

Josh

You'll be suprised at how much can need "restoring" on those old plows. Usually the tail wheel assemblys constitute the most wear, not only the wheel but at the pivots as well. If you drop us a pic or tell us a little more it is possible to get down to which plow you have. Things like-fully mounted or pull typ, large or small tail wheel, trip bottoms, and backbone-solid square shaft 2 channel beams welded together ect. Parts are not as easy to get as the tractors, Some are available BUT watch the prices. Jorde's decals in Rochester MN has the decals for almost all the plows as well.

if it has wheels they are yellow. i like to see the parts that touch the ground flat black and the rest is green. if you'll take it a part you'll find the true colors, most off the time, in between two parts. lol
