I have an LA with a starter ring gear that has quite a bit of wear on the teeth. Can the ring gear be reversed..there is a lot less tooth wear on the reverse side of the teeth. Thanks

I have a 46 B. The problem I had with reverseing my ring gear was getting it started back on the flywheel. I then noticed the bevel on the inner side of the correct side. I then proceeded to make my own bevel by clamping the gear in the vise and using a hand grinder to trim off some metal. The gear went on just fine and I haven't had a bit of trouble with it since.

all of the ring gears I've seen have a bevel on the inside edge that goes onto the flywheel first and also the teeth have a bevel or chamfer on the side that the starter pinion engages from. This makes the gear non-reversible unless you ad these features to the opposite sides of everything.
