I have read on this forum that a little oil will come out of the vent on the left side of the engine. My question is "how much is a little"? Mine leaves a trail of oil droplets, probably equivalent to a drop every 6 inches, and when stopped for a short period (like shifting gears) oils a spot on the concrete driveway about 6 inches in diameter. I assume this oil is coming out of the crankcase and not the air filter. Is there a baffle or restrictor that mine could be missing? The original vent tube has been replaced with rubber hose.

I was going by what happened in a truck shop that I worked at around here years ago.A mechanic had a detroit in a truck run away and he got scared and all he could think of was to put his hand over the intake, well it killed the engine, but when he took his hand off the intake it was bloody from the vacuum sucking the blood through the skin! Not a good thing. They decided it was caused by a flooding gas burner being driven into the shop blowing loads of black smoke and the detriot picked it up and took off.

That's alittle too much and if left alone too long there's a chance you could have a engine RUNAWAY,because that oil is coming from the blower shaft seals, when there is enough leakage the engine can suck in that oil and start running off that oil and when that happens you can't shutoff the engine by normal means. The only way to stop it is to shut off the air supply by placing something heay over the intake pipe BUT NOT YOUR HAND!!!!! !!Some engines have a Emeregcy shut off cable but, I don't beleive your's will have one. Back to the leak you will have to remove the whole blower and replace those seals you will probably have to buy new style end caps or have the old ones machined to accept the new style seals.

I've stopped my 435 a couple of times to see if it would. Just pulled the precleaner off the top of the intake stack and placed the palm of the hand over the pipe into the aircleaner. Didn't hurt my hand any and the engine went bbbbb rrrrr r...thnk and stopped. It blew some white oily smelling vapour out the stack while doing this. Where this story originates from is engines being test run without any pipework over the blower inlet. There has been instances of people and equipment getting jammed into those open rotors. As you said those blower seals are likely done. The rings and sleeves are likely no prize either. Replacing the seals with just the 1950,1960's style seal won't help either. The blower end plate has to be machined to take a new style of seal. When doing the pistons/sleeves & injectors use the 21 to 1 N series parts. The valve train takes new updated springs on the cam followers and the valves. The originals ARE worn out.
