Greetings,

Does anyone have experience towing a RU1010 behind a pickup?

I've got about 25 miles between where my tractor is and where its going to be, and rather then renting a flatbed trailer I was wondering about the wisdom of getting a tounge like we used to tow our old Willie jeep with.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Al

Yes, I have towed my 1010 in reply to arice, 01-30-2006 14:06:22
When I bought my 1010 at auction about forty miles from home, the haulers said they would deliver it to me, but I didn't much like the prices they were asking. I went to a U-Haul place and rented a Tow-Dolly. However, when I got ready to run the tractor on, it wouldn't start. Had to put it in gear and run it up the ramps with the started. Sounds good, huh? Well, maybe not. Turns out the rear tires on a tractor (at least on a well-used tractor) are not necessarily round. Started up the road with that 1010 in tow and it started bouncing from side to side like you wouldn't believe. Turned out 35 mph was the best I could do and keep it on the road. But I got it home and was happy with the results. Don't think I would recommend towing one with all four on the ground, although I have an uncle who towed a Ford tractor all over Chicago to his work sites several years ago.

Ah, that's what I wondered. What is the top speed of a 1010? What do you suppose the wear and tear would be on the tractor driving it 25 miles as opposed to towing it on a dolly for 25 miles? How many miles do you think you would get per gallon of gas?

There is nothing safe about flat out towing a tractor behind a pickup. At the speed you would need to travel to "safely" tow the tractor, it won't save much time versus just driving it. Less than two hours and 6-8 gallons of gas should get you there safer than towing without a trailer.
