Hi, just wondering what is the maximum hp you can dyno through a standard 21 spline shaft like fitted to the 6030 ? I guess eventually the clutch pack would slip or maybe even spagetti the drive shaft. My 6030 dynos at 305 hp @ the shaft with the 6619 without the fuel turned up. Am just wondering as I saw a Fordson Major with a Perkins 640 V8 fitted dyno to 225 hp and that shaft is only meant for 50 hp ! Thanks, Chris.

It's not a question of horsepower capacity, it's a question of torque, which is what a dyno is actually measuring. Torque is the twisting or turning force that horsepower is derived from, using a formula that also factors in shaft speed. That said, the driveline of the 600-hp dyno I mentioned in my other reply is rated for 3200 lb.-ft. of torque, which it has to be in order to take the 3151 lb.-ft. of torque it takes to produce 600 horsepower at 1000 rpm.

What kind of dyno are you running? 305 for a "stock" 619 seems like an awful lot. What's the engine out of? We have a new AW Nebraska 600 dyno here at the shop, which can handle 600 horsepower on a 1000-rpm shaft. With our water supply to it, we can supposedly dyno 375 horsepower continuously without overheating the dyno (water temp over 140 degrees F). On our old dyno, I had the yoke at the tractor end of the shaft break one day while pulling a 4960 at 200+ horsepower. Nothing major happened, but it made a heck of a bang and scared me a little, lol.

Hi Chris, I would be more worried about what you were driving with the PTO of those tractors than the actual tractor shaft. Don't know if ASAE (American Society of Agricultural Engineers) or the tractor manufacturer had specs for max hp on tractor shafts or not since each would be making their own shafts. Someone in engineering would know more and not me. lol. Glen
