have a John Deere 301A --- throttle lever keeps returning to idle position in high RPM's. is there a return spring i'm missing and where would it be located-- thank u for ure help ----john

There is a spring loaded aluminum backing washer with a fiber friction disk on the throttle lever shaft. The aluminum disk is pobably stuck on the shaft. You need to remove a groove pin to get it free. Use never-seez when you put it back togeather. Shoe leather makes a good replacement friction disk.

if you pull cover on the side of lever, like you are removing battery, there is a large nut with spring on it check spring...there is also two washers that rub together they may be bad...you might just need to tighten the nut some...have nice day may god bless
