Just curious has anyone else had problems with Dennys Carb shop. I am very disappointed with their service. I had a carb for an Unstyled JD D rebuilt there. When I got it back and put it on the tractor the bowl gasket on the carb leaked gas all over my newly restored tractors paint job, at this point I am not very happy. So I called them up and I told the lady in the office my situation and I asked her if she would please send me a new gasket and I would put it on myself. She said absolutely not and that I must have done something wrong to the carb to make it leak. I took the bowl off and it was obvious that they had used the same old gasket. It was close to $400.00 dollars to rebuild the carb and I couldn't even use it and my paint was starting to bubble up. So I made a new gasket. I had to strip the paint off the block and repaint it. I never even got to take it to its first show. I have never been so aggrevated with a cmpany becasue they say they are professionals and don't do something as simple as putting all new gaskets in an expensive rebuild. Their carelessness cost me a new paint job on the engine and alot of inconvenience.I am an honest man and I respect people and expect to be treated the same way. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I have never used him nor have I heard any thing good about his work. I did see a rebuilt carb for a 38 A(DLTX18) come out of a box from Dennys and the throttle shaft bushings were bad. I replaced them for a friend who bought the carb from Dennys. I am proud to say I use Roberts for my carb, and mag parts. Robert had a cam ground for me, that some machinest said throw it away. The cam came out perfect. I have never been treated in any other manor than that of an important person with Robets Carb. You are somebody to Robert.

Robert's Carb helped me with questions about rebuilding my "D" carb. I used the tech tips from their website, but I had to buy the 'aircraft' drill bits & parts here in Canada - because shipping and brokerage would have cost more than the bits and kit.
I really appreciated their help, and I hope they prosper - they certainly deserve to in my opinion!

Thanks Roberts!

Jon

I had a carb rebuilt by Burrey's afterhearing him speek at a 2 cylinder club meeting and later at anouther county club meeting I met and herd Denny speek and after hearing him speek my next carb went back to Burrey. Denny about 10-15 mile closer to me but in oposite direction. Been a few years since I was to Burreys and last I was up he was just moving house and shop to a nice shop from the old about ready to fall down wood one car garage that had previously been his shop.

The best solution to this subject is what TOOT alluded to is Fixing your own. Buy a rebuild book or video and a rebuild kit and go to it. Its certainly not rocket science and you will have no fear doing the next one.

Once you have it apart and still have questions you can get all the answers on this site and/or the archives.

Good luck

Another very good place is McDonald Carb and Ignition over in Georgia. Phone 706-367-4179.
Had them do work for me with EXCELLENT communication. And the carbs I had them do, worked just fine from the first time I fired up the tractors.

I too once contacted Denny's carb and found the employees to be some of the most ignorant people Ive ever spoken to. I do not plan on using them ever again in the future and try to convince all my tractor buddies to stay away from them. The attitude of the lady answering the phone was enough to turn me away. She was less than helpful and treated me with no respect at all. I ended up contacting Treadwell Carb. and found them to be very helpful and polite over the phone. My tractor also ran real good when I got the carb back, it needed no adjustment.

I"ve found that in most carbs it not the parts at all, it is the passages that are blocked. New paint seems to sell high prices. Looks like more enthusiasts would clean and rebuild themselves. Seems as though they veiw a carburator as a complete mystery.

Never heard anything good about him or his products. Ask that question in the pulling forum since most of his former customers sought him for pulling enhancements or parts. I would suggest learning how to clean passages on the DLTX series. With the proper tools its not hard at all. Robert"s Carb is friendly, but too expensive in my opinion. Ive cleaned and rebuilt almost a hundred in my time, can"t see where 140+ dollars for labor only is justified. My opinion like everyone else"s.

Wow...lot of anger out there...made me curious, so I called Denny's and asked them about some of the things in the responses here...I portrayed myself as a potential customer with a couple of carbs to have rebuilt and I asked if they really put steel bb's in passageways to seal them. The lady who answered had a very discernable attitude, and switched me to some guy in "parts". I asked the man the same question and explained that I had seen some less than favorable reviews of his work on YT. He reacted by raising his voice and getting quite irrate! And it seemed to be at me! He called the respondents to the questions "a bunch of idiots who have nothing better to do than sit around the computer and make up lies". Hmmmm... "idiots w/ nothing better to do than sit around a computer?"...Hmmmmm... that must mean me too, 'cause here i sit typing away....He also stated that he stayed "clear away from YT" but in the same breath said that he never did any work for the people posting the messages. Interesting paradox he put himself in there. How could he know he never did any work for the writers if he stays away from the site and by inference, wouldn't have read the replies nor know who the writer was? Seems to me to be a bit touchy 'bout his bad press...little too close to home i'm guessing....Anyway, I told him that I'd probably do business w/ Roberts...they are much nicer on the phone and hung up. AND, i've done business w/ Roberts for some time... but I've only purchased parts since I rebuild my own carbs and have for 20+ yrs. But they have always been prompt, courteous, knowlegable, and downright friendly, even answering ?'s on rebuilding that they obviously knew would cost them $ in the long run as it allowed me to rebuild my carbs myself.....Dennys Ph # is 937 368 2304... give'em a call and see how they act to you...and by comparison, try Roberts... 712 262 5311. I think you'll notice a difference.

I think you are saying what Shakepseare wrote...

"Me thinkst he doth protest too much!"

If things were rosey and business was good you'd have thought he would have said, "Well, I can't stop what people say, but here's a list of customers who were happy, so you can call a few of them and then make your own choice".

Ain't gonna happen here, IMHO.

Robert's has never treated me badly on parts or service.

Frank

A couple of years ago I ordered a rebuilt carb for a B from a tractor parts company that I don't remember the name of now, and when I put it on, the tractor didn't idle. I took the bowl off and saw a brass plug that had been twisted on but not removed, so I drilled out the plug and out came a bunch of rust. I cleaned the passageway, re-tapped the hole and stuck a new screw in and the tractor ran fine. When I called the parts company they said I should have sent it back so I told them it was obvious I can do a better job than them!! I got this carb from them because the carb that was on the tractor was the wrong one. Jim

Well guys, I fall right in there with ya'll. I had a distributor for a JD A rebuilt, recalibrated, a 55,000 volt coil, and electronic
modual put in and and one clip that holds the cap on and the bill was nearly $300.00. I should have ironed out the price before hand so you can say it's my fault. But when the key was left on by someone else (not me) modual burned up and same grochy old woman TICKED me off. Sooooo NO MORE Denny's for me. Don

I too had a carb rebuilt off a 730. I got it back and put it on and it ran way to rich. I called and spoke with the lady who answers the phone. She was the rudist person I have ever spoken with, when I just had some questions on the setting of the carb. never again

I have sent several carbs to Burrey's. Always had both excellent comunications as well as very good service. Great people to do business with. I am wondering however, wether Burrey's has sold or something as I see new names in the Two Cylinder ad?

Absolutely not!! The ONLY place to go is Robert's Carb repair! I went that other place mentioned in the above post (not Denny's) and had a horrible experience. They swore it was not their fault and refused any further help. After I bought Robert's carb rebuild video I rebuilt it myself and VIOLA now it works just fine.

IMHO, Robert's is the only place to go. I've talked to him on the phone concerning camshaft grinds, carburetors etc. and he will answer questions as long as you keep asking them. Seems like Denny maybe doesn't want to give away any secrets, which is a poor way to convince someone you know what you're doing. And I've heard a bunch of stories about "rebuilt" carbs that were simply repainted.

A JD friend of mine said they take out the brass plugs in the DLTX carbs and when they are done they drive steel BB's into the passages to plug them. I would go ballistic if they did that to my carb!! I don't have any personal experience but haven't heard much good on YT

Sir, Sorry to hear about your miss fortune with Denny's. If you want to Know what kind of place you are dealing with just do a search here and on the pulling page with there name and you will find out real fast what you need to know. I have personally have had there products in my shop that tractor pullers have purchased from them and would have to say I have thrown away better JUNK than what these people send out to there so called customers. They must operate off one time customers because I have never seen or heard anything any different.
