Hi alberta al,
I bought custom oil rings from Niagara Piston Rings Company in the USA for my "D" Link
They>Link were very helpful, and very reasonable. They can likely make wider rings and you can have the lands machined to fit.

I would check the cost first. Machining in my area is very expensive!

My top two ring lands were worn, but within acceptable limits for a parade tractor.

My tractor is one of the last few hundred unstyled "D"s -- built in 1938.

Ontario Jon - LOL.

I had the same problem with the top two ring lands on my D pistons. I purchased two larger width rings from Otto Engine Works. I then had a machine shop widen the top ring lands to accept the oversize ring width. This also trued up the taper from wear. The machine shop removed material downward so the new rings would not hit any wear ridge on the block. The new rings were gapless which compensated for block wear (ring gap). There is no way you can turn the engine over without opening the pitcocks. The compression is excellent. My machine shop bill was $35.00 for both pistons. The entire fix was about $75.00.

Use to could order the D oil control rings seperate from JD but don't know if you can now. Also try Otto Engine Works for custom rings and turn all the grooves the same to fit. I don't have their number or site handy. I've never had good luck using spacers like that.

When I redid a "B" several yrs ago, we had a problem finding spacers for the rings, but since it was .045 over we just bought one std size 3pc Hastings oil ring & used the rails as spacers. I don't know if Hastings makes rings big enough to do this with a "D", but it might be worth a try.
