I am restoring a '37 B with rear cutoffs. I have read in 2-Cylinder Magazine that the original '37 Bs that were equipped with optional rubber had 36" tires. My cutoff rims are 38". These old rims are rotted out and must be replaced so I am looking for advice as to whether I should replace the old cutoffs with 36" or 38" rims. I am also interested in any suggestions as to a good (read "low price") source of replacement rims (either 36" or 38"). Thanks.

I'd use what I can get tires for the easiest/cheapest.

John, some were replaced with 36" rims and some with 38" rims. 38" tires are going to be easier to replace. My 38 B has 38" rims on it.

John,
36" rims would be correct for your '37 "B". If you were to replace the old rims with new 38" rims, would there be enough spoke material left to weld to after cutting off the old rims? By replacing with 36" rims, you'll be able to trim the length of the spokes to fit perfectly and end up with a pair of good looking wheels. You'll need 36" tires also. Good Luck on whatever you decided! Ken
