Why Are 6030 JD Side Sheilds So High Priced?

My 6030 JD is one of many that are missing both engine side sheilds in front of the cab.

All that I've found are priced at over $1,000 per pair. What did JD used to sell them for new? Will anyone ever reproduce them?

Has this been the going price for a long time or did a pair sell high on ebay?

I guess that I will try and track down all the former owners of my 1976 6030 in hopes that one of them has the missing side sheilds.

I bought one for the right side of my 5020 for around $30 off ebay a year ago. Hopefully I can find a deal like that on the left one. They seem to go a little cheaper than the 6030's, But not much.

Yeah that will stop when someone starts reproducing them. I sold a good set last year that was sitting in barn collecting dust after I saw some bring $500 on ebay so I asked $700 just for fun and someone just called and bought them right away. Not many 6030s left here and I've looked for more shields too but most got hauled off for scrap probably but I'm sure there are more out there hiding in a dusty corner of a barn. The shields were in way of filter service or to jump start and they ran hot in summer anyway so shields got taken off. With that big fan on front the shields just funneled more dust into the cab too.

I guess that depends on IF someone decides to start reproducing them. May not be enough of a market to justify them. Sure there seems to be far more supply than demand right now, but the 6030 restoration market probably isn't poised to explode, either.

Yeah, I don't think the demand would be there either to reproduce them.

For one thing, 6030s weren't produced in super-high numbers, so there isn't nearly as big of a parts base of parted out and salvaged tractors as there is for something like a 4430. Secondly, they were often taken off and laid aside never to be reinstalled, and we many times hauled away with scrap iron. I can attest to this as I found a mint-condition 5020 side panel in a small junkyard several years ago. Probably stupidly, I gave it to a friend for nothing, as I had no use for it.

Made from unobtainium ! All of them go high on e-bay. Seems like enough demand for them you would think the Chineese would start makeing them and the tractors to put them on.

About half of the 6030's I see are missing the side shields so it looks to me like the demand would sure be there for reproduction ones.I dont know how many 6030's have survived.Lots have been made in to pullers.

I pulled up all the 6030's in the photo archives on here and saw quite a few of them missing the shields.

I see theres a pair for sale now in the classifieds for $950.

Thanks for all the replies.
