Beam 540 was used on the #37 Stag Sulky plow built 1925 and after (up to 1940.) The plow was built first in 1922 but the 540 beam did not come into use until 1925. There were regular and Texas versions. The texas ones had special cotton sweep attachments and wheel extentions for "breaking out cotton ridges", and a cast furrow wheel. The Regular one was available with special rolling landside and slatted bottoms.

The side with the garter spring goes to the oil side, this keeps the oil in, the metal part doesn't matter as long as the spring is on the oil side

Sorry, Can't get this to Post. M FINAL DIVE OIL in reply to 430WLPG, 01-10-2006 17:45:39
Okay Guys, Need your help. I am putting new bearings and oil seal in the final drives. The new oil seals are different then the old. The book says to put the "sharp" edge of the oil seal towards the "wheel side". The new seals have a flat side and an open side with the rubber seal slanting towards the open side? To me the sharp side would be the open side of the metal part of the seal (not very sharp) or the rubber seal with the slant (could be considered sharp). Does the go into the tractor or towards the wheel? I guess you can probably figure out by my little story that I already have one set in. I just need to know if I need to but another seal and cup?

Any help would be appreciated.
