What was the factory tire size(s) for a JD 4020? I just bought a set of chains for a 18.4 x 38 tire which the guy said came off a 4020.

I am not even close to getting these on so I am beginning to wonder. Thanks

My dad's 1969 4020 Diesel, purchased new March '69, has 18.4x34 rears and 10.00x16 on factory wide front. This is a row crop tractor, long rear axles, factory 3-pt.

23.1 X 30's were common on "standards" in my "wheatland" area. As I recall, that size was developed by collaboration between Deere and Firestone, just for the 4020. 34's were used, too.

Here's the "complete"(?) rear rim size list:

R31592 RIM (16.9-34 TIRE) (RC)

R41846 RIM (16.9-38 TIRE) (RC)

R31943 RIM (18.4-34 TIRE) (RC AND HC) (EMBOSSED DRIVER)

R31490 RIM (13.6-38 TIRE) (RC)

R31491 RIM (15.5-38 TIRE) (RC AND HC)

R34659 RIM (23.1-30 TIRE) (ST)

R32072 RIM (18.4-34 TIRE) (WELDED DRIVER)

Owners manual states:

Standard - 7.50-18 front and 18.4-34 rear
row crop - 6.00-16 front and 15.5-38 rear
