My 51' A has been sitting for a couple months and lately I have been trying to start it. I can get it to run for a couple seconds or so but thats it. I drained the fuel and replaced it will fresh, put on a new condensor and adjusted the points and still no luck. The only thing I can think of is that it could be the coil. What are the symptons of a bad coil? Does anyone have any suggestions to why it won't start?

Sounds like you have a whole in your float. I got a 50' A and when it would start to flood out I would hurry up and cut the gas off and it would run till the bowl was empty. That was my problem.

Try a fresh set of plugs also.

Float is probably sticking and or you have a clogged fuel system some place. If it was the coil it would run 30 minutes to and hour before causeing problems. You might try tapping on the carb, that might free up the float. Also did you drain the carb?? If not do so. Also you can pull the drain with the gas turned on, make sure you have a good flow of gas for 2 or 3 minutes if you don't then you found the problem.

I'll took the carb off and checked the needle valve and float and they seem to be fine. I cleaned it out with carb cleaner. The fuel pressure to the carb seems fine, it runs out fairly well. Sometimes it will pop when the starter is going but once I disengage the starter it will quit. I put a bottle of Heet in the tank yesterday so hopefully that will rid the water if there was any in the tank.

But have you checked to make sure you get a good flow out the bottom of the carb when you remove the drain plug??? If you don't then you have a problem in the fuel system. If you have a good flow, check to make sure you have a good blue spark.
