Just got a Deere Model B to fix up and ran into gearshift problem. Difficult to get into gear and then will be in different gear than indicated on the gear box; for example, when in second gear, it runs like it's in sixth gear. The gear shift lever is very loose and will move up and down too much. What am I in for in fixing this? Al

May end up being as simple as pulling the top of the tranny and fixing the gear shift lever so it stays up against the spring pressure. Then move the shift forks around with a crow bar make sure they work then place them all in neutral and put the top back on.
