Grateful for any and all information. One fo the rear rims is rusted out and i'm having a difficult time finding that also

1020 Rear Rims in reply to Mike in Middle Tn, 12-21-2005 07:21:22
As for finding new rear rims, that's easy.

If your local JD dealer is worth a darn, they can help you get what you need.

If not, check out Unverferth Wheel Systems. They can get you or MAKE you the rim(s) that you need - or ANY agricultural rim for that matter.

Wheel rims are pricey. Dig deep.

That is a French engine number - probably made in Saran, France. Those engines were usually used in German-built (Manheim) tractors like the 1120 and also used in late 350C crawlers. 1020 (AG) and the 300 (Idustrial) were US built tractors. The 820/830 German tractors were almost the same. So, what I'm saying is you could be looking at any one of those models - there's not much differece. 820/830s usually have a different hydraulic pump than 1020 - they have a little pot-metal gear pump with open-center hydraulics. The 1020 has a radial piston pump - either four piston or eight piston - but it's the little German pump. The 300 usually has the full size 2.4 cubic inch US built pump. In regard to the 1120 ? I've never looked at one close, not even sure what country they were sold in. We never had them at our dealership. I have a 1020 and a 300. I'll go out later and look to see where the serial tags are located. My 300 has a gas engine and my 1020 diesel. The 300's numbers are: Engine serial # M41TP 117367T Tractor serial # T4P1C 076470T

I just climbed around in the snow a bit looking for the d*mn serial number tags on my little JDs. They are both in the same place on my 1020 and 300. When sitting (in the seat) the tag is to your right just above the floorboard/foot-rest and just under the three-point hitch control lever.

Hmmm... Looks like you may have a problem. I believe the numbers you found on the engine by the starter are the engine model and serial numbers. You will have to talk with a JD dealer to see if they have a way of tracking what year that block is. The engine information you had should have come from the right side of the engine block on a tag - correct?

Anyhow, your serial number or "PIN" - as Deere calls it (Product Identification Number) should be located on a tag on the right hand side of the transmission case. Keep in mind, the transmission casing is about where your right foot would be on the floorboard.

Look the whole right side over good, from the clutch housing (rear of engine) to the back of the tractor. It is possible the tag is hiding under paint, dirt, debris, or it may just be gone (hopefully not). If the tractor needs a bath, clean it good with a pressure washer! I don't own a 1020 tractor, nor have I been around one in quite a while, so I cannot describe the exact location of where the tag should be located to you.

I can tell you that your tractor was built sometime from 1965-1973. I can also tell you that the serial number should range between 14501-157109+.

The JD 1020 was a 38 Hp (gas or diesel) utility tractor that ran the typical 8 year production cycle that Deere commonly runs.

Good luck and hope you figure it all out.

Andy - thanks for the fast reply
Yes the tag i got the information was located on the block just up from the starter..metal tag with John Deere and info....I cannot locate a tag on the tranny or rear of the tractor. The tractor is fairly clean so i assume the tag was removed or has fallen off :(
