I have a 4430 p/s trans lost all hyd. I.E. stearing, brakes, rear valves. ect. Cleaned both screans (rear & front in pump)also changed both filters. Then replaced stroke valve in the pump. When I start the tractor the main pressure line from the front pump shakes. The trans. pump & hyd pump were both replaced about two years ago. Also the bottom screan had what appeared to be clutch material and some meatal shaveings. Someone told me water in the oil could cause the clutch or brake material to fall off the disks. Any help would be nice.

What kind(s) of oil have been dumped into the transmission over the years?

I"am not quite sure what the Perma-Clutch is? I talked with a neighbor who said C-1 & C-2 probably needs rebuilt. I don"t know because all the gears work just fine. He told me fluid could be leaking in the power shift. Is that true? Thank you for the help.

Sorry, I didn't see the "p/s" in your post, indicating "Power Shift", so I ASSumed you had a quad-range with Perma-Clutch.

Was there metal and clutch material in the oil at the time the tranny and main pumps were replaced, or is that happening now? If then, it's possible that something has continued to come apart and has plugged up the sump screen again, leading to starvation of oil to the tranny pump and ultimately the main hyraulic pump. First - check the oil level. Sounds stupid and simple, but maybe you had a leak along the way and lost a bunch. Second - check the filters and sump-screen. If the screen is plugged again, that's likely your problem, and you probably have brakes coming part or material coming off the transmission disks. Third - check transmission system and lube pressures. This could be the logical second step, but if you don't have the gauges and quick couplers handy, checking the filters and screen would be easier.

If I am reading right and you have a power shift transmission, Then more than likely you need a new torsional dampner, JD part number RE29608, JD List is $330.00. It is the clutch disc in you flywheel. the front clutch pack shaft splines into it.When it strips out or flys apart your trans oil pump on the front pack isnt turning anymore. I have seen a rare occasion where the shaft stripped off but usually it is the dampner.

The hex shaft that drives the charge pump is shot. Might as well plan on rebuilding the charge pump also, as the body is probably badly scored,

ATB,check trans. pump pressure, should be 175 psi if I remember correctly. Also check splines in main pump drive coupler. Tx Jim

You need to verify that oil is being moved up to the front main pump by the transmission pump.

(Does the Perma-Clutch work, and is the pressure up to spec there?)

If it is, you have something wrong with the front pump that you have not figured out yet, with your "shotgun approach" to parts replacement, or you have a massive "leak-to-sump" after the front pump that is not allowing it to build pressure.
