We are also an A&I dealer. Those mufflers and pipes come from Stanley Muffler Company in Missouri, 99 % of the aftermarket and a lot of the "OEM" exhaust parts are built by them. As for A&I"s quality, I see it as good or better in some cases than the OEM parts I see nowdays. They make a lot of the parts themselves and yes some of them are imports, just like Everyone elses parts.
I have been disapointed more in the quality of several Deere OEM parts the last few years than I have with A&I"s parts. I have also seen aftermarket parts sold inside a Deere box or package, Pay the higher price for the logo. A man needed some front wheel bearings recently, I priced the aftermarket and OEM Deere to him and he said he didnt want them "dang ole Jap bearings " so give him the OEM"s. Well, I showed him where the OEM"s were made in Slovakia and the aftermarkets were made in the USA, so he left with the aftermarkets for about $20 cheaper.
Every once in a while I will get a Deere bearing that says Made in the USA, but not very often...
Everyones quality is krap these days compared to the way it used to be. Built cheaper but costs more....

I am refering to parts that are from an aftermarket company being put into OEM boxes and sold as such, when the same exact part is offered at a lower price in a different package. Kinda like rolling the dice to see if you are getting what they are calling "their" part or something you can get from most any aftermarket supplier. I have better luck getting defective or failed aftermarket parts replaced than OEM ones. Not been many though. I have seen parts from everyone the last couple of years that have a "factory" defect that is missed in quality control. Tie rods not threaded where the nut goes, shafts not machined to the proper finished size, Air conditioner compressors with pieces missing out of the clutches, water pump bearings not cut off to the right length, a water pump without the seal in it, rod bolts without threads, transmission discs without the fiber on one side or the other, axle bearings without all the rollers, and on and on and that is just the "oem" parts I can think of, I am saying it is just a shame that there isnt much of a Quality to anything anymore.

No doubt there are bad parts entering various parts systems all the time. But as far as Deere goes, I personally install tens of thousands of dollars worth of Deere parts per year - I've done repair jobs that have run into the $15,000 to $20,000 range for parts alone, and MAYBE come across one item a month that isn't made properly, has been damaged in shipping, etc. It's like everything else, people remember the one bad part they got and not the 25 good ones they got. If there's not a problem, you put the part on, fix the problem and it disappears. If you have to go back and get another part etc. it sticks in your head.

Sounds like you work at a place similar to ours. Our shop has several more combines to go through this winter and they have been averaging around $20,000 each for parts so far. Rice country is tough on them. Several big dollar jobs on some 4960's etc lately as well. Clutch & brake packs etc. Total rebuilt on a fire damaged 6400 cab also, that was a nightmare, serial number breaks, subbed parts and also orders, lol... This has been a slightly down year for us but I figure I have still handled around $200,000 in aftermarket parts and at least $500,000 in JD parts so far this year. And Yes, you do remember most of the bad parts, especially when the customer needs it out the door fast and when you open the part up it isnt good or right... When it can go wrong, It will...

Got a shop full of combines and more outside waiting. Corn and soybeans around here. I'm a tractor technician, and that's where we're a little short of work so far. We also do a lot of self-propelled sprayers, and I've been spending quite a bit of time on those. Nothing serious, just inspections/service/winterization on 4710s and 4720s, and the PIPs on the 4720s and 4920s. I'm kind of new to the sprayers, but am actually enjoying working on them. Everything but crawling up and down that is, lol. Deere jacked up their prices pretty good across the board a while back, but I think they're rolling some of them back now.

Aftermarket parts in a Deere box? Well yes, if you consider anything that doesn't specifically say "John Deere" on it to be "aftermarket". There isn't an OEM out there that produces anywhere NEAR 100% of their parts in-house. It's an OEM part because of the box and the warranty, not because of who made it.

A & I products headquarters are in Rock Valley, Iowa. I visited them when I worked for a John Deere dealer & this joint venture just started. They use forein material & castings of questionable quality. They reverse engineer the parts they build, so they look the same, but quality??? Simple parts like a muffler or pipe they're ok, but anything more complicated then that I'd take my chances on a used part from a junk yard. After selling JD parts for over ten years, JD & their partnership with A&I really left me with a BAD taste in my mouth.

Go to the link and select "Search for Dealers" under the "Parts Users" heading to find an A&I ag products dealer in your area.

Is that the same "A&I" that Deere owns an interest in? If so, you can get parts from them through your local Deere dealer under the name "Parts Country".
