Does anyone happen to know which gears are different between the standard transmission and the transmissions with the higher 1st thru 5th? What Im asking is which gears do I need to change to switch my 720 from standard to high speed. I thought maybe someone on here might had done the switch before and could tell me. Or if anyone has a 720/730 diesel parts book and could look up the gear part numbers I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks, Todd in TN

There are a couple different higher speed options for these tractors, but you probably want the 8 mph 5th set of gears. By installing this, you loose the creeper first gear and your existing second becomes first. you will have a new second. Third will be your old fourth. your new fourth will be your old fifth. your new fifth will be added. sixth will be unchanged. To add this gear setup your 720 30 will need the newer style top transmission shaft which has 2 bolt holes threaded in the left hand end . The new gear assembly will consist of a gear that will fit over the existing left gear that is machined onto the shaft. A new lower sliding gear to mate with this gear. a new shifting fork . A new shifting lever guide. if you don't have to chang the top shaft this change is not too hard. The gears that change are under the timing gear cover behind the flywheel.
