having problem with preignition when at idle have checked timing it seems correct with impulse marks have even used high octane fuel still no success still pings need more ideas

Check the timing with a light to see if it changes with engine speed. I suspect the centrifugal advance is sticking advanced. It happens quite a bit with old and worn distributors.
