Could I get some commints on the (J) mag. vs the Wico mags. Repair cost, are they as hot, relibility, point gap etc. No experience with the Fairbanks mags. It is on a 37B. Thanks Julian

The FM J & X mags are good reliable mags and many still used on Continental/Lincoln welders and AC tractors and others. Most guys with Lincoln welders prefer the FM mag or Bosch over the Wico but those are 4cyld mags also. Prices on some parts got kinda high before another company bought them out but have leveled off some now. New service parts are available but new caps for the 2 cyld. J & X are about $80 now and brush type dist. rotor disc is only available new old stock and not new anymore. The used rotor can be faced off smooth in a lathe again. New impulse assemblies are about $80. Good aftermarket parts for them also like gaskets, points, condenser, and coil. On FM-J you set points at .020" and for FM-X at .015" . The FM-J2 or X2 were a replacement type mag. They can be made as hot and reliable as any mag with proper service.

Glen Thanks for the reply. The info was excellent. I will set my points and clean them also. Does not seem like the spark is enough at the plug tip, but I can have poor wires etc. Anyway sounds as if the mag will do the job if working properly. Thanks again Julian
