I have a model 5310 that has a problem with maintaining an implement after raising it. For example, upon raising the control lever the attached rototiller will lift, but when I take my hand off the lever it rapidly drops down followed by rapid drop of the rototiller. If I "lock" the lever with the lower limit lock it will stay raised, so there does not seem to be a lot of force driving the rockshaft down. I've noticed that even if the tractor is not running if I try to raise the lift lever it is pulled down as if it were spring loaded. I have checked hydraulic oil level, rate of drop control and draft control but none of these cure the problem.

Hi John,

I have a 5310 Turf Special. According to the troubleshooting section of the manual, for the sympton of "Rockshaft control levers drift.", "Levers too loose", the Solution is to "Adjust the Rockshaft control lever friction". It references the section on Rockshaft and 3 point hitch. I looked in that section, but it doesn't say anything about adjusting the friction of the levers. It also mentions "see your dealer".

It sounds like there is some sort of adjustment on the amount of pressure required to move the lever. I would look at the pivot point or slide for the lever and see if there is a locknut or spring loaded adjustment to tighten it up a little.

Vinnie,
Thank you for the information. I found a reference in the owners' manual about adjusting the friction on the lever under section 55-14. I loosened the lock nuts and tightened the bolts about 2 turns. The lever now stays in position. It's great to find a quick solution to what I thought was a major problem. I appreciate your quick response.

John
