Can't get it to charge. Have installed a new generator. It is a 6 volt system. Pos. ground.also has a short to ground somewhere. Battery drains. Takes a couple of days to drain. Can't find the short. Have replaced the regulator and the ignition switch as well. Am stumped.

Any help?

Thanks

Al

AL,

Did you clean the mounting area for the regulator good? It needs a good ground and that is a common source of the problem. If so, I would check the switch. The switch controls the charging rate, either high or low. I have seen them where they only charge with the switch in the high charge setting. That resistor on the back of the switch controls the rate.

Just some things to check.

Digger, thank you for the fast response. We replaced the switch with new one. Old switch had an external resistor which is/was grounded to the switch. New one does not. Still puzzled. (I am)The old generator was not charging. The new generator does not appear to be charging either. The mounting surfaces of the generator and regulator were scraped free of paint and grease before installation. If the surface on inside of cover (switch mounting area) was not free of scree/rust/flakes could this effect the grounding/charging.

Still lost.
