I'm overhauling a DLTX 53. I looked thru the archives and got some advice, and I got a catalog from Robert's Carb Repair. Only thing I can't figure out is: When I tapped the nozzle w/ a 12-24 tap to pull it out, did I ruin the nozzle? I cant't see that it's damaged, just looks like 61 years worth of crud on it. Also, when installing the nozzle, which way do the small drilled holes in the side of the nozzle face? As always, thanks for any help. Jim.

Jim, You probably didn't damage the nozzle unless it's cracked or bent bad someplace. Just soak the nozzle and body well to get all that crud loose and only hand drill out the holes carefully cleaning them trying to not enlarge any of them. A set of numbered drills works well for that but a torch tip cleaner can also work on the nozzle. It doesn't matter which way the holes face when installing and the nozzle should fit in body somewhat loosely with the spring against the bowl nut holding it in place.

No you did not ruin the nozzle by threading the inside to remove it. I made a tool to do this with. As to which way the nozzles should point, I have never seen anything stating which way to point them. However I would think for best results, they should point toward the engine. My 2 cents
