I have a 1950 "B" with Roll-O-Matic which I finished restoring in July of 2001. Since that time I've had it in four or five parades and numerous tractor shows. In addition, I drive it occasionally around the streets of our subdivision.

The front tires (5.50-16 3-rib Firestone)were new in 2001 and in my estimation have had little use. However, the outside ribs are nearly worn down. Is this unusual and, if so, what might be the cause? The Roll-O-Matic knuckles create a considerable amount of "cant" - more than tractors without this feature. It appears to put more weight on the outside of the tire. Any opinions will be appreciated.

Have an accomplice drive the tractor on a dirt road. Follow along in another vehicle. Note what is happening under the front wheels. I did this on my JD B, and noted that one wheel was throwing dirt sideways like a disk blade. I'm convinced that one of the arms on the Roll-o-Matic is bent. Haven't had time to trouble shoot, but is wearing tires fast. Can probably increase tire life by turning tire on rim, to put wear on other side of tire.

probably a mile on the street would be same as 100 in a field. Raised on the farm my Grandad did not like roading tractors.

Is it possible that your Roll-O-Matic knuckles are worn? They are worn on my 50, but when I was told the price of new ones, I decided I can live with the old on a hobby tractor. I notice that the outside rib on my tires show noticeable wear also.

I'm 99% certain the bearings and the wheel location on the knuckle axles are correct.

The knuckles/axles were badly worn and I replaced them with used ones which appeared to be in excellent condition so I don't think that is my problem. The Roll-O-Matic seems to operate correctly. Just having a lot of wear on the outside rib and some on the center rip. Wear is at an angle.

Hey Ken, Im confident you have the wheel bearing pre load adjustments snugged in correct and I was always told that excessive inward wheel tilt was to help them run and stay in the furrow. Therefore, if your all tight n adjusted my guess is thats how they wear, but asphalt sure isnt the same as the soft dirt huh, so you may have to live with it is my thinking if you want her to keep that original appearance??

Triple rib tires are made to run off road in the dirt and they wear rapidly on the hard road.
