I recently used my tractor to bale a small amount of hay for a friend using his New Holland 69 baler. We needed to be very careful on right turns or the PTO shaft of the baler would clatter terribly. I checked later in a NH 68 baler operator's manual (the model 68 is very similar to the model 69) I have and found that the tractor drawbar pull point needs to be 14 inches behind the splined end of the PTO shaft. Measuring mine, I found only 4 1/2 inches as my drawbar was forward as far as it would adjust. Other holes in my drawbar can provide either 9 inches or 17 1/2 inches, but no holes would provide the required 14 inches. The Model 50 Operator's Manual specifications lists the correct value as 14 inches. Further measurements show my drawbar as 47 11/16 inches long but my Model 50 Parts Catalog lists drawbar length at 44 5/8 for the engine-driven PTO version which I have. I'm not the original owner of my tractor so I don't know if it came that way from the factory or if someone changed the drawbar. The Model 60 Parts Catalog shows a drawbar length of 47 11/16 inches for engine-driven PTO up through S/N 21851, then no length is listed for drawbars from S/N 21852 and up. So I assume my 50 has a drawbar from a 60. Further I'm thinking that MAYBE since the 60 changed drawbar part numbers at S/N 21852, there was stock left of the 47 11/16 inch drawbars and they were used up on some 50s. (That's assuming the later 60 drawbars were something other than the 47 11/16 inches) I don't expect part numbers were stamped on drawbars. Does anyone know if part numbers are on drawbars? Next, I'll need to find a correct drawbar for my 50 to be able to run my baler correctly next hay season.

I have never seen a part number on those drawbars. They need to be offset from the center of the tractor as the pto shaft is offset too.I wouldn't know why you can't drill a hole in yours where needed to line it up ?

Mike,

Cutting a new hole in the drawbar I have is the exact thought that suddenly woke me in the middle of the night and I thought how dumb could I be to not have thought of that right away! Thanks for the follow up.

Those drawbars are easy to drill. Surprisingly the steel seems pretty soft in them.
