I just got back from my grandparent's farm after a weekend of combining some beans after wheat. The 30 combine did pretty well and nothing broke except the unloading auger chain the first time we used it because we ran the PTO too fast. The parts depot of Grandpa had a chain that we could use though. We ended up using the 4020 because we couldn't get the A there on time. The hydraulics and live PTO were nice. That 4020 just wont stop, 12000 hours, powershift, blower and never had a wrench on the engine! Testament to JD quality in that tractor. the Case 1660 separated a little better than the JD 30 but it has a speciality rotor and isn't 46 years old. All together, it was a fun weekend and I got to try my new combine. At 14 years old, I still have a lot to learn, but I'm getting there.

Those 4020's sure are good ! But makeing it to 12,000 hours also says alot about Grandpa's maintenance. He must be doing something right also.

He's got a trick for everything. EXAMPLE:
Put your grain that tests too high for moisture on the bottom of the semi because the grain elevator only takes a sample off the top.

That is one of my favorites.

Sounds like your elevator won't be in business much longer. Anybody that doesn't core sample each load at at least 5 locations all the way to the bottom of the load is just asking for trouble.
