I am in the process in replacing the gasket for the rockshaft housing. As per the service manual I"ve unhooked all connections to the housing, removed the bolts and nuts and started to lift the housing off the tractor. As I lift the housing it looks as though the Load Control Arm is somehow attached to something in the housing. Is there some other connection that the service manual does not mention(doubtful)or do I have to lift it off in a certain manner? Thanks!

KWGray:

I had to remove my 4010 rockshaft last year. Sounds like you may be hanging up around the cam follower. It is not fastened...just make sure you hoist slowly and watch and make sure it is not in a bind. Also be prepared for an aggravating job when you put the housing back on. You must get the roller of the load selector control link (in the valve housing) on the backside of the cam follower without damaging the linkage or follower. I remember we had quite a time doing this because it is all but impossible to see the roller. Also, I had my rockshaft valve assembly removed (think we removed it to try to see the roller better) and someway got the valve operating lever (sector gears behind quill) out of time. Had to remove the valve assembly a couple of times to get the timing back right before my dash control lever would operate the rockshaft correctly. Good luck!

you should be able to lift the housing straight up.the load control arm just fits into a slot but is not connected to the rockshaft

Just be sure the sensing lever doesn't get knocked down before you replace the housing on the transmission or it will be lick over time. Its easy to do.
