I just purchased a 1974 JD 1530 Tractor with JD 145 Loader. Any comments from the John Deere crowd would be appreciated, including it's plus's and minus's. This is my first John Deere. I am more familiar with 800 series Fords.

Thanks

John

Always learn something from these sites. My book shows they were made in 74 and 75. 45 HP PTO and 39 DB. Question to Buick&Deere, What is "shiny flakes" indicating? Solution? Thanks

I guess if your filter was seen with "shiny flakes" it must be in Hollywood ?

Or your brake linings are eat up and chewing up the plates.

Check the coolant ph and the trans filter/screen for shinny flakes.

If the PH is off and I find shiny flakes, what problems are these the symptoms of?

I have a JD1530 that I've used for about 6 months doing mostly dirt work with it. It's been a great tractor. This is my first diesel tractor so I've wanting to see how well I like after this winter.(I believe that they built these tractors over 2 years, 1973 & 74.)

I also have a 1970 gas JD1520 that I've had for years. It's also been a good tractor but if the 1530 does well this winter I think that it will become my favorite.

Hope this helps.

I have a friend with a 1530. They only made them one year. I just used his last week to spread fertilzier, and it worked like it was new. His has no issues other than the paint is faded and there is some rust from the calcium on the rims. It shifts fine. The clutch works great. The clutch on that engages the pto first, then the drive train, so if you push it down all the way the pto stops.

His starts up with almost no cranking, and has a little smoke when cold. The lever for raising and lowering the 3 pth is not as smooth as I would like, but probably just needs oil. Anything else you need to know?
